Position Description

The Staff Engineer reports to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager of Document Platform under GEICO Platform Engineering organization. This tech lead works with other engineers to innovate and build a unified and modernized document management system that integrates with multiple business applications to serve critical business processes.

You will lead the strategy and execution of the technical roadmap of the document intelligence sub-area of the entire document management platform. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in both Document AI and large-scale distributed system design and development.

Position Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer, you will:
•    Focus on one area in the document management domain and act as the functional tech lead to for the cross-functional product development team;
•    Coordinate and collaborate with product managers, engineering team members and customers to solve complex problems
•    Lead the high-level and low-level designs of one innovative area of the new unified document platform – particularly around OCR, AI-based document capture and processing, or AI-powered document search and retrieval. and be responsible and accountable for the quality, reliability and performance of the solutions
•    Leverage open-source frameworks and embrace the cloud native development paradigm
•    Mentor and help coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
•    Always push for engineering excellence; Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.

Qualifications
•    Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, Golang, Python or C# including object-oriented design
•    Extensive knowledge and experience of building data intensive large-scale distributed systems with focus on fault-tolerance and throughput
•    Knowledge in AI/ML models and MLOps best practices
•    Experience of building enterprise-grade AI/ML products at scale
•    Experience in Document Intelligence related product development
•    Experience building products of micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs
•    Experience building the architecture and design of new and current systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
•    Fluency in DevOps concepts and best practices in CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as a code
•    Experience with application performance monitoring tools and performance assessments
•    In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
•    Experience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
•    Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
•    Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)

Experience
•    8+ years of professional software development experience on large-scale distributed systems for high-traffic internet applications or business-critical enterprise systems
•    6+ years of experience with architecture and design
•    4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
•    4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
•    3+ years of experience with AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary

$110,000.00 – $236,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
